DNS records and worldwide DNS propagation checker

IPv6 Compatibility Checker

IPv6 Compatibility Checker tool verifies if a domain is using IPv6 on their network. This tool queries the domain's DNS Records to check if the IPv6 DNS Records resolves properly and returns some valid value or not. Just enter a domain and this tool instantly checks the IPv6 Compatibility against a given domain.

IPv6 deployment - Some key points

The deployment of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) has been in progress since the mid-2000s. IPv6 was developed to replace IPv4, which has been in use since 1982 and is in the final stages of consuming its unallocated address space. However, IPv4 is still the most used and most familiar IP form.

As far as IPv6 adoption is concerned, some interesting facts have been observed.

  • Over 25% of all Internet-connected networks support IPv6 connectivity.
  • As per Google stats, 49 countries deliver more than 5% of traffic over the IPv6 network, with 24 countries whose IPv6 traffic exceeds 15%.
  • 17%of Alexa Top Million Websites support IPv6, and 28% of Alexa Top 1000 Websites support IPv6.
  • In November 2016, 98.4% means 1,519 of the 1,543 TLDs on the Internet supported IPv6 to access their domain's nameservers. Today almost all popular DNS servers support IPv6.
  • There is a requirement by an ICANN that all new TLDs must be IPv6-capable from the day they launch. From the 2017 report, it can be observed that across all TLDs, there are 11,4221,950 registered domains with AAAA records.
  • There exist 54,154 Autonomous Systems. Out of those ASNs, 13,947 (25.8%) advertise an IPv6 prefix. Among those, 13,704 advertise both IPv4 and IPv6 prefixes. Two hundred forty-three (243) networks only advertise IPv6 prefixes.
  • Facebook states that they are in the process of turning IPv4 off within their data centers. IPv4 and IPv6 addresses from outside come to their load balancers, and behind them, it is only IPv6.
  • Microsoft made one of the first publicly-announced purchases of IPv4 address space, reportedly purchasing 666,000 addresses at $11.25 per address in 2011. It has similarly stated an intention to turn IPv4 off within their networks, running IPv6 only within the company.
  • IPv6 has emerged. It moved from the early adoption phase to the early majority phase. Today, cloud hosting providers start to charge for IPv4 addresses while leaving IPv6 services free from additional charges for address space.

Note: The data is based on 2017 stats.

About IPv6 Compatibility Checker Tool

IPv6 Compatibility Checker tool validates the IPv6 DNS records to verify if a domain is compatible and supports IPv6 on their network or not.

The AAAA DNS Records contain the IPv6 address of a domain, and that is used to establish a communication between the IPv6 users and the website's server. As the IPv4 addresses are A Records of DNS, the IPv6 addresses are AAAA Records of DNS. AAAA Records helps the user's browser establish a connection with a particular website using the IPv6 network.

For website owners, it is essential to verify the IPv6 compatibility after setting up the AAAA DNS Records. An incomplete or invalid setup may lead to broken connections between the IPv6 users and the server.
